Dear ISAC Member Society Colleagues

This is a reminder that applications for the position of Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents (IJAA) are closing on 1 August 2022. Please submit your applications as outlined below to secretariat@isac.world

————————————————————————————————————————————-

We bring you news of ISAC’s International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents (IJAA) which is published by our partner Elsevier. The impact factor for IJAA has been announced and has seen a massive increase from 5.283 to 15.441. It is now ranked 11th out of 94 Infectious Diseases journals (previously 17th out of 93) and 11th out of 136 Microbiology journals.

The success of a journal may be attributed to many parties but, in the case of IJAA, its current success is due, in no small part, to its Editor-in-Chief; Professor Jean-Marc Rolain. The journal’s reputation has hit new heights; as shown by its popularity with authors and readers. Jean-Marc has demonstrated strong leadership of IJAA and has contributed significantly to the ISAC Executive Committee. Jean-Marc’s ISAC and Elsevier colleagues are extremely grateful for his dynamism, drive, enthusiasm, support and friendship since he became IJAA Editor-in-Chief in 2015. He has successfully progressed and developed IJAA to its current peak and will regrettably leave the journal at the end of his tenure at the end of this year. He leaves the journal in an incredibly strong position and we are grateful to him for that.

ISAC and Elsevier are now looking for a new IJAA Editor-in-Chief; the position will begin in late 2022. We are pleased to be able to have a transition period with Jean-Marc Rolain, who will facilitate a comprehensive handover.

Candidates
Candidates should be experienced scholars, actively involved in research areas covered by the journal’s scope. The International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents serves the field as a peer-reviewed journal, providing comprehensive and up-to-date peer reviewed reference information on the physical, pharmacological, in vitro and clinical properties of individual antimicrobial agents (antiviral agents, antiparasitic agents, antibacterial agents, antifungal agents, etc.).

Working together with the journal’s Editors and International Advisory Board Members, the Editor-in-Chief’s primary responsibilities will include managing the peer review of journal content, overseeing the large team of Editors, encouraging the submission of original higher quality manuscripts, working with the publisher and ISAC to develop and implement the journal’s strategy, and selecting new Editors and Board members as necessary. Ideal candidates should be active in the field of infectious diseases and have an established track record as an author, and possibly as a deputy or associate editor, plus prior hands-on experience in all aspects of peer review, working with authors, reviewers, and publishers. The journal received over 2,700 submissions in 2020 but this is now returning to pre-COVID levels of around 1,500 submissions per annum. A stipend will be provided in recognition of the time and effort involved in this position.

We are open to the possibility of appointing two (or more) Editors-in-Chief, rather than a single Editor-in-Chief, to steer the journal through the next five years or more of its development.

Application Process
Applicants should provide the following information as part of their application:

  1. A vision statement (maximum 1 page) including topics, types of content, types of papers, areas of focus, ideas for creating widest reach, strategies for attracting contributions as well as for engaging the global infectious diseases community and connecting with authors and readers, editorial structure and submission/peer review process. Please give your views on how the journal might be improved.
  2. A short CV (maximum 2 pages) with a focus on the candidate’s professional background, experience and accomplishments relevant to this position.
